There are few things better than sitting outside for lunch in the summertime, enjoying a beautiful waterfront view along with your meal.

And that’s what you get at The Dory Bar & Restaurant, which is located on Bridge Street and features an expansive vista overlooking Chase Creek.

One of the few establishments that is open year round, the landmark spot has been a watering hole favorite for nearly a century.

“It’s the only restaurant on Shelter Island where you sit directly on the water,” said Dory owner Jack Kiffer. “It has tremendous views and has been here ever since 1925.”

While the Dory’s stone fireplace draws crowds in the winter time, it is the outdoor terrace overlooking the creek that draws the crowds in the warmer months.  An authentic tiki bar serves drinks beneath a large red and white canopy, while cool breezes off the water keep customers comfortable even during the hottest months. In August, jazz musicians perform out on the deck, serenading customers and nearby residents during the weeklong Shelter Island Jazzfest.

The back deck opens at 11:30 a.m. for lunch and stays open until 10 p.m. on weekdays for dinner and drinks. On weekends hours extend until 11 p.m.  The Dory is located at 185 Bridge Street on Shelter Island. For more information please visit thedoryshelterisland.com
