Shelter Island is like a world onto its own and that goes for the shopping as well. The Island discourages chain stores, but that means plenty of Shelter Island foods, beer or other local goods to give to your friends and family. Visit the stores to see for yourself.

Here are five Shelter Island gifts to pick up this holiday season.

For the Beer Lover

Shelter Island Craft Brewery

You will never find the beers brewed at this small-batch brewery anywhere else. Current favorites include Forbidden Fruit, an apple-based ale, Liquid Sunshine, their signature wheat ale and French Kiss, a crème brulee-inspired imperial milk stout.

Prices for growlers range from $13 to $16 for a 32 ounce growler and $24 to $26 for a 64 ounce growler. If you can’t get there, call them to order a gift certificate. Your special someone can amble over whenever they want to cash in their gift.

Shelter Island Craft Brewery is open Thursday through Sunday, from noon to 8 p.m. The brewery is located at 55 N. Ferry Road. For more information visit or call them at (631) 749-5977.
