Rich, tangy, peppery and hot!
The crab and corn bisque at Table of Content General Store is perfect for a cold winter’s day or any day for that matter.
The food store on North Ferry Road is a combination bakery, coffee shop, specialty food and bookstore.
Open a few years now, the store just began making soups this December and they are already a very popular attraction.
“People come in here all the time,” said staffer Mary Boeklen. “They see the sign outside for hot soup and immediately pull over.”
The crab and corn bisque is not one of these soups where you spend all your time searching for that one piece of meat amongst a bunch of fillers. This soup is chock-full of crab and corn in a creamy and peppery flavored broth. If you are not into seafood, Table of Content also offers a hearty chicken noodle soup.
The soup sells in two different sizes. The small is about eight ounces for $5.50 and the large is approximately 12 ounces for $8.50.
With the soup comes a nice, soft bread roll to help soak up all that delicious broth.
The shop has a backroom with several bar tables and stools where you can sit and enjoy your meal quietly, peruse the store’s cookbook collection or chat with the staff to catch up on Shelter Island goings ons.
Table of Content is located at 59 North Ferry Road on Shelter Island. They are open Thursday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information call (631) 749-5862.
