Hot, creamy and chocolatey: that is what every cup of hot chocolate should be — and sometimes if you’re in the mood, maybe a little more. And while temps have been above normal, this is still the time of year to nestle up to a big cup of homemade hot cocoa.

So where to go?

Here are three places that serve homemade hot chocolate on the North Fork and Shelter Island.

Aldo’s Café – Thick, creamy and decadently chocolatey. Aldo’s dark hot chocolate has been called “life changing.” Next time you’re in Greenport, stop in at Aldo’s to warm up after a day of ice skating and see if your life changes. Aldo’s is located at 103-105 Front Street in Greenport. For more information call 631-477-6300 or visit aldos.com.

Marie Eiffel Market – Rich, creamy and frothy, a cup of Marie Eiffel’s hot chocolate hits the spot after a chilly walk along Shelter Island’s beaches. Open year round, Marie Eiffel Market is like a beacon this time of year during the island’s quiet season. Marie Eiffel Market is located at 184 North Ferry Road on Shelter Island. For more information call 631-749-0003 or visit  marieeiffelmarket.com.

North Fork Roasting Company – Sweet and thick, this hot chocolate comes topped with either fresh whipped cream or homemade marshmallows. Sit back in one of the cafe’s big easy chairs and enjoy this sweet confection. North Fork Roasting Company is located at 55795 Main Road in Southold. For more information call 631-876-5450 or visit noforoastingco.com.
