Scherenschnitte Paper Cutting Class – Adults are invited to come to the Shelter Island Library on Friday, Feb. 12 at 5:30 p.m. for an afternoon of crafting. Scherenschnitte means “scissor cuts” in German and is an old European form of paper cutting design. The art form was commonly used for silhouettes, valentines and love letters.

Valentine’s Weekend at the Chequit – Shelter Island’s historic hotel opens it’s doors for a special Valentine’s Day weekend, Feb. 12 through 14. Nightly rates for the weekend start at $195 and include daily breakfast, free WiFi and parking.
Red Maple, the hotel’s restaurant, will also be open. Along with a winter menu, the restaurant has added two decadent main courses for the occasion; Baby Lamb Chops and Striped Bass. For dessert guests can indulge in confections like a chocolate whiskey tart or the whoopie pie flight.

Chinese New Year Acrobatic Show – Hosted by the Shelter Island Library, acrobat Li Liu will give a special performance at the Greenport High School on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 1 p.m.
Liu’s performance will include hand balancing, plate spinning, trick cycling, ribbon dancing, and much more.

A Valentine’s Day concert: Heart & Soul – The Shelter Island Friends of Music will present “Heart & Soul,” a concert performance featuring Russian cellist Dmitry Kouzov at the Shelter Island Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Feb. 14, from 3 to 5 p.m.
Kouzov will perform classics by Bach, Bethoveen, Debussy and many more. There will also be a post-concert reception. Admission is free, though donations are appreciated.
