Foodies have been beating a path to the door of Houseman Restaurant on Manhattan Greenwich Street, which is owned by chef and part-time Orient resident Ned Baldwin, since it opened last year. And in that time it has earned flattering write-ups from The New York Times, Saveur and New York Magazine.

So with its East End connection it seemed the perfect place to host a benefit for Oysterponds Historical Society next month. Photographer and Orient resident EJ Camp, a member of  Oysterponds Historical Society, will chair the April 5 benefit dinner.

“It’s a very popular destination for people from the North Fork and Orient because he lives there,” Camp said. “Baldwin will come out, go fishing and bring back sea bass to serve in the restaurant. He has a good relationship with a lot of local purveyors.”

Proceeds from the dinner will go toward the Oysterponds Historical Society. OHS maintains six 18th and 19th-century buildings, which house a collection of some 75,000 artifacts and objects; including scrimshaw, paintings, letters, photographs, agricultural and maritime tools, clothing, quilts, and carriages relating to Orient, East Marion, and North Fork history.

OHS also provides educational programs to hundreds of local schoolchildren each year and presents a series of exhibitions, lectures and workshops to adults throughout the year.

Funds raised by this dinner will support the Society’s programs, buildings and grounds, as well as the upkeep of Poquatuck Park.

Tickets for the April 5 benefit dinner cost $200 per person and will go on sale the week of March 8. The benefit, taking place from 6 to 9 p.m. will include cocktails, dinner, and a raffle. To purchase tickets call (631) 323-2480 or visit oysterpondshistoricalsociety.org.

Houseman Restaurant is located at 508 Greenwich Street in Manhattan.
