Marie Eiffel is back.
For aficionados of Marie Eiffel Market, food kept flowing at the N. Ferry Road market on Fridays through Mondays during the winter season. But if you were craving pastry, a specialty sandwich or dinner on other days, you had to put your appetite on hold.
While the eatery’s owner and namesake was in India for two months — her usual sojourn that’s both a spiritual and business trip — her Island food business, for the first time, kept humming, at least four days a week.
This week she expands to a seven-day-a-week operation for the summer.
Was it worth it financially to keep the market open in the slow season? Maybe not so much, she admitted.
“But it made a lot of Islanders super happy” and since her return, they have been flocking to thank her for her decision to have the business operate, at least part time, she said.
What’s more, she was able to keep her staff happy since they could get a salary while she was away.
They had to step up to the plate and they did, Eiffel said.
Now she’s focused on the basics that have made the Marie Eiffel Market popular, but also on adding to the menu.
There will be more seafood specialties and a lot of healthy dishes on the menu. But there will also be the tried and true offerings that proved popular in the past.
Sandwiches will be available, but she wants more emphasis on full meals and, of course, the wonderful pastries that initially attracted a lot of her customers to the market, she said.
On Mother’s Day, she’ll be offering a special dessert of raspberry macaroons in the shape of a heart.
Hours are from about 6:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. but shortly, she’ll be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Marie Eiffel Market is located at 184 N. Ferry Rd. Those who want to order that special Mother’s Day dessert or her dinner specials need to phone ahead at (631) 749-0003.
