St. Gabe’s Chapel on Shelter Island is in danger of being torn down. The property on which the chapel sits is slated for development, but if the money can be raised and the chapel moved to a new location, it can be saved.

And Island residents Dave and Kathryn O’Hagan Klenawicus want to help. The couple has started a GoFundMe page to raise $90,000 to find the chapel a new home elsewhere on the Island.

To that end, this weekend they will be hosting “Cocktails + Summer Treats,” a cocktail and dessert party to help save St. Gabe’s. The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 21 at the Shelter Island home of Dave and Kathryn O’Hagan Klenawicus, 11 Spring Garden Avenue, Shelter Island Heights.

All are welcome and all donations will be graciously accepted. For more information, call (917) 647-7518 or email kathrynohagan@aol.com. To learn about the GoFundMe campaign, visit https://www.gofundme.com/savestgabeschapel.
