An around-the-Island race kicks off Race Week at the Shelter Island Yacht Club on August 5.
The three-day Race Week will feature both PHRF and IRC racing as well as One Design, Classics and Navigator races.
The around-the-Island race, which will be scored separately, will be followed by two days of buoy racing for the IRC, PHRF and one-design classes, and point-to-point racing for the navigator classes on August 6 and 7.
The SIYC will host daily awards parties with prizes for each day’s racing and for the overall two-day series.
Shelter Island Yacht Club Commodore Jamie Mills is looking forward to welcoming sailors to the inaugural event.
“Sailors have long loved to come to our island and club,” he said. “We are planning to give them a chance to have a first class regatta on our waters. With a number of great sailing venues, the many great amenities on the island and the welcoming atmosphere of our club, we are sure great racing and a good time will be had by all who come.”
The S.I.Y.C. was founded in 1886 and is one of the oldest yacht clubs in the country. The club has an active big boat race fleet with over 50 yachts of all sizes participating in club races. This is the first club regatta open to all.
