Who needs Black Friday and the stress of driving to the mall when you can do your shopping, see some great artwork, meet a few authors and artists, and have lots of fun at the same time?
That’s the deal at the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill over Thanksgiving weekend. The museum hosts its annual “Holiday Party + Market” on Friday and Saturday, November 25 and 26.
The weekend event continues the tradition of the museum’s popular Parrish Presents, which was a post-Thanksgiving community tradition for decades. This year, the market includes shopping with exclusive vendors, art activities for families, and a festive benefit patron cocktail party on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.
The party features a live music, open bar, hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, shopping at the gift market, and book signings featuring Parrish Art Museum collection artists April Gornik, Mary Heilmann, Susan Meisel, and Donald Sultan. Also signing books will be artist Alex Beard, novelist Erica Abeel, and God’s Love We Deliver board member Jon Gilman. Tickets start at $150 and proceeds from the benefit support the Parrish’s year-round programs.
On Friday from noon to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., museum visitors can shop at the gift market, which features vendors Grain Surfboards, Haverhill Fine Jewelry, India Hicks, LSC Designs Fine & Estate Jewelry, Merrichase, Rose Randolph Cookies, Slater Zorn, Tenzin’s Scarves, and Utopia Bath, Ltd.
On Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., children and their caregivers can participate in art activities including gallery tours and art projects in the studio inspired by works on view.
On Saturday, from 1 to 3 p.m., Michelle Halstead leads drop-in origami activities for all ages. Throughout the weekend, all visitors can enjoy “Artists Choose Artists,” the museum’s juried exhibition featuring work by seven established artist jurors and the 14 participants they selected for the show, as well as the newly installed permanent collection of nearly 100 works.
