On Sunday, May 28 from 4 to 6 p.m., Mashomack Preserve hosts its annual membership open house on the lawn of the newly renovated Bass Creek Cottage. Gather with family, friends and neighbors to celebrate the arrival of another summer.

Come learn about Mashomack’s wildlife, nature programs, guided hikes, research projects, and how to become a member.

A birder and botanist’s paradise, the preserve’s 1,400 acres comprise more than 200 species of bird and many more wildlife species. The preserve’s Pine Swamp Complex is considered the only natural community of its kind on Long Island.

The property features extensive salt marshes and forests of oak and beech.

Be sure to read our story on hiking on Shelter Island, as featured in the most recent edition of northforker magazine.
