Long Island Restaurant Week runs through April 30, and one of the few South Fork restaurants taking part is Baron’s Cove in Sag Harbor. This is one of the village’s newest eateries and it offers fine water views as well as Chef Matty Boudreau’s creative Restaurant Week three-course prix fixe menu for $28.95.

Among the offerings are appetizers such as Buffalo shrimp or a butterhead salad with blue cheese crumbles and red onions, along with entrees such as rock shrimp torchio pasta dish or a grilled nine-ounce teres major steak (a tender shoulder cut of beef) served with a spicy horseradish sauce. Well, it’s official! Shelter Island has been named one of the top 20 places to live by the coast.

The title was bestowed upon our little corner of the universe by the esteemed editors at Coastal Living magazine, and Shelter Island shares the honor with 19 other enjoyable seaside destinations, both in the United States and abroad. (more…)

The piece will be on display during ‘John Graham: Maverick Modernist’ at the Parrish Art Museum.

An upcoming exhibition at the Parrish Art Museum — “John Graham: Maverick Modernist” — will be the first comprehensive retrospective in 30 years of the provocative artist’s work. The show will be on view from May 7 through July 30 and will feature 60 paintings as well as a selection of important works on paper from Graham’s influential four-decade career. (more…)

While many people might be wrestling with this weed in their garden right now, the dandelion was celebrated at KK’s The Farm this weekend.

A Dandelion Festival, now in its second year, was held at the Southold farm on Sunday, April 23. The festival featured lectures, dandelion food products, a wreath-making station and more.

The event was intended to “raise people’s awareness about the benefits of the dandelion as food medicine and herb,” said farm owner and event organizer Ira Haspel. He said he’d like to see people think twice before applying harmful pesticides to the ground to kill the flower. (more…)

James Hull, owner of the Shelter Island Craft Brewery, likes to say that when people visits his brewery they are “tasting Shelter Island.”

By that he means every beer on tap is created from ingredients grown on the island, each with a different taste to offer.

The brewery is now entering its third summer and Hull said he’s excited about the progress he’s made, continuing to build his business and do what he loves.

“I’m not really a beer drinker myself,” he admitted. “But I was blessed with a very good palate.” (more…)
