If you’re one of those types who love getting a peek inside other people’s houses, you’ll definitely want to check out Shelter Island Historical Society’s biennial house tour “Living with History/Making Choices.”

The tour will be offered on Saturday, August 5 from 2 to 5 p.m. and on view will be five fabulous Island houses which present “choices” made, ranging from the minor to the radical. (more…)

Tickets are now available for the Shelter Island Historical Society’s annual “Black & White” party.

This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, July 22 from 6 to 10 p.m. in Havens Barn.

The Historical Society’s signature fundraising summer event is an opportunity to support the organization while dancing to great music, enjoying a raw bar, dinner by Marie Eiffel Market, complimentary photo of each guest by Island photographer Eleanor Labrozzi and a silent auction.

It’s back! Beginning Memorial Day weekend, the popular Farmers Market at Shelter Island Historical Society returns for the 2017 summer season. Opening day is Saturday, May 27 and the market will operate from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each Saturday through September 2 at the Historical Society’s headquarters on Route 114. (more…)

The 143rd running of the Kentucky Derby takes place this Saturday, May 6. Billed as “The Greatest Two Minutes in Sports,” while it’s amazing to see these thoroughbreds run in person, if you’re not able to travel to Churchill Downs in time for this weekend’s race there’s a fine alternative right here on Shelter Island. While Shelter Island sits near the end of the North Fork, don’t ever lump them together.

The displays here on the ‘Rock’ are as unique as its residents. While much of the North Fork is decorated with bright lights and color, Shelter Island décor is more natural, rustic and individualistic.
