LIRR resumes Greenport service, Claudio’s Clam Bar to reopen: East End Spring Watch 2016

The East End keeps springing to life with more and more seasonal businesses making their 2016 debuts. Here are a few of this week’s reopenings.

The Long Island Rail Road will renew service to the North Fork on Saturday, April 30

Trains will run on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from April 30 through November 27. Catch the 9:12 a.m. from Penn Station to Ronkonkoma, switch there to a double decker train stopping in Medford, Yaphank, Riverhead, Mattituck and Southold. You’ll arrive in Greenport in time for lunch at 12:02 p.m.

Claudio’s Clam Bar & Wharf in Greenport will reopen on Friday, April 29.

Get ready for lobster rolls, rum punches and lots of fun because the season hasn’t fully started in Greenport until Claudio’s Clam Bar and Wharf is open and full of happy customers. Be sure to check out their new express menu which includes everything from margaritas to popcorn shrimp.

Claudio’s hours will be 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. approximately (hours are dependent on weather conditions). They will be open everyday except Wednesdays.

Claudio’s Clam Bar & Wharf is located at 111 Main Street in Greenport.

The Sag Harbor Whaling Museum will also reopen for the season on Friday, April 29.

Dedicated to Sag Harbor’s past as a prosperous whaling port, the museum houses the largest collection of whaling equipment in the state of New York. There’s also a large scrimshaw collection as well as examples of 19th century artwork dedicated to the whale hunt.

The museum’s hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Sunday – Thursday), 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. (Friday), 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. (Saturday).

The Sag Harbor Whaling Museum is located at 200 Main Street in Sag Harbor. 

Lavender By the Bay in East Marion will reopen on Saturday, April 30.

This 17-acre lavender farm is a stunning scene from mid June to mid July when the lavender is in full bloom. For a $5 fee you can wander through the rows of English and French lavender. Stop in their store for both fresh cut and dried lavender, as well as lavender honey, sachets and more.

The farm’s hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in May (Friday through Sunday). The farm will be open 7 days a week 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from June to September. (The fields close at 4:30 p.m.)

Lavender By the Bay is located at 7540 Main Road in East Marion.

Orient By the Sea in Orient will reopen on Friday, April 29.

Family-owned and operated since 1979, this popular seafood restaurant will reopen for its 36th season this month. Restaurant hours will be 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Monday – Thursday), 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. (Friday – Sunday).

Orient By the Sea is located at 40200 Main Road in Orient.
