Friday Night Dialogues: Historian Roger Horowitz

Learn about the journey of kosher food through the modern industrial food system at the Shelter Island Library on Friday, August 19 at 7 p.m.

Author Roger Horowitz will discuss his book “Kosher USA: How Coke Became Kosher & Other Tales of Modern Food.”

Shelter Island Fire Department Chicken Barbecue

Enjoy an old-fashioned barbecue to benefit the Shelter Island Fire Department on Saturday, August 20.

There will be fire-grilled chicken plus other good eats offered at the SIFD’s annual fundraiser.

Adults are $25, children $15. Tickets can be purchased at the door. For details visit shelterislandfd.org.

The barbecue will run from 4 to 8 p.m. at St. Gabriel’s Field, located at Burns and North Cartwright Road.

ArtSI Open Art Studio Tour

Tour real artist studios on Shelter Island during the 7th Annual Artists of Shelter Island Open Studio Tour.

Visit 16 studios on Saturday, August 20 and Sunday, August 21 from noon to 5 p.m. This self-guided event is free and open to the public. For more details and a map visit artsi.info.

There is also an exhibition of ARTSI artists (who are not participating in this year’s tour) at at The Shelter Island Public Library through August 25th. The library is located at 37 North Ferry Road.
