Get ready to celebrate the season when the Chequit Inn hosts its second annual Christmas tree lighting on Saturday, December 10.

Everyone is invited to attend the celebration, as the hotel lights an enormous 15-foot Christmas tree outside on its patio.

There will be plenty of activities to kick off the holiday revelry, including cookie and ornament decorating for the kids and a Santa photo booth, where attendees can have their picture taken with the man himself. Guests will also be able to enter a raffle to win a $50 gift certificate to Red Maple, the Chequit’s modern-American restaurant and bar.

Entertainment will be provided by Christmas carolers, who will be decked out in classic Victorian finery and will serenade everyone during the party.

Mulled wine, hot apple cider and hot chocolate will all be available for sale at the inn’s heated outdoor patio.

There will also be a bake sale, offering goodies like sweet and salty brownies, gingerbread and sparkle cookies, white chocolate cranberry oat cookies and whoopie pies to help raise funds to benefit the Shelter Island Historical Society.

Guests can also shop the Chequit’s seasonal retail shop, “Salt Supply,” which will be open for a special pop-up sale, offering gifts and stocking stuffers.

Following the festivities guests can grab a bite to eat at Red Maple restaurant, which will be open for dinner service beginning at 4 p.m. Reservations are encouraged.

The Christmas tree lighting will take place on Saturday, December 10 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Chequit, which is located at 23 Grand Avenue in Shelter Island Heights. For more information call (631) 749-0018 or visit
